Our Purpose

Recovery Café Network trains, supports, and connects communities across the U.S. and beyond through the Recovery Café Model. Each Café offers a healing space for individuals seeking recovery from anything that blocks our capacity to love and be loved.

What Recovery Means to Us

At RCN, we believe long-term recovery flourishes through connection. The Recovery Café Model is rooted in the conviction that every human was created for love and to transmit love. Relationships formed in authentic community help open pathways to forgiveness, challenge assumptions, and support each person to rediscover their gifts.

The healing nurtured in each Recovery Café ripples outward as Members, staff, and volunteers carry compassion and hope into their broader communities. Recovery Cafés, and the relationships formed within them, become not only a sanctuary of healing, but also a spark of hope for more connected, compassionate, and thriving communities.

“We believe that real relationships with those whose realities are different from our own–relationships that cross socio-economic, racial, religious, political, and other divides–are what change us and ultimately change our world.”

Killian Noe, Founder of the Recovery Café Network

Guiding Principles

Every Recovery Café feels special yet familiar. This shared feeling comes from our commitment to the Guiding Principles all Recovery Cafés and their Café communities strive to embody. Displayed in every Recovery Café across the Network, they serve as a framework for how we live out our mission and how we relate to one another within the Café community.

To create a safe community in which we are all valued, we will strive to:

  • Connect with divine Love in ourselves and others*
  • Show respect
  • Cultivate compassion
  • Practice forgiveness
  • Encourage growth
  • Give Back

*We understand that some Cafés may discern that there is another phrase that resonates more deeply with their community to describe the concept of “divine Love” (such as Love, Light, Love-force, Great Spirit, or some other phrase that means “divine Love” to your community) and the Network acknowledges those love-based phrases. Each of the other Guiding Principles must remain the same for all Recovery Cafés.
