The North Kitsap Recovery Café Opens Its Doors

Poulsbo, WA — The North Kitsap Recovery Café officially opened its doors in January 2026 with a standing-room-only grand opening and ribbon-cutting celebration. As the first city-owned Recovery Café, the launch marked a significant milestone for both the City of Poulsbo and the broader Recovery Café Network community.

Members, volunteers, city leaders, families, and community partners gathered to celebrate the opening, reflecting the collective effort that brought the Café to life. The event underscored the city’s investment in long-term, relationship-based recovery support.

For Director Summer Anderson, the moment was years in the making. Nearly a decade ago, she first walked into a Recovery Café in Tacoma and immediately felt its impact.

“I got the full chills and goosebumps,” she said. “I was like, ‘this place is special.’”

Although she did not have access to a Recovery Café during her own recovery journey, the model resonated deeply. Around 2020, she was part of an effort to open a Café in Bremerton, but the pandemic halted the project.

Now serving as Director of the North Kitsap Recovery Resource Center, Anderson helped lead the successful launch of the North Kitsap Recovery Café in Poulsbo. Opening the Café in the county where she once struggled with substance use carries particular meaning.

“Having this happen here, in Poulsbo, has been so much more meaningful because this is where I live and this is where I did a lot of my dirt, so to speak,” Anderson said. “It’s been a healing journey for me.”
