A Recovery Café is a healing space
for individuals seeking recovery
from anything that blocks our capacity to love and be loved.

Recovery Cafés are a type of recovery community center that provides long-term, relationship-based support through a membership model. Nurtured over 20 years of practice, the Recovery Café Model is anchored in
best practices for sustained recovery and grounded in radical hospitality and loving accountability.

Six Core Commitements of every Recovery Café

What makes the Recovery Café community special is how we belong to each other. Together, all Member Cafés of the Recovery Café Network live into these shared Core Commitments:

#1

Create a community space that is drug- and alcohol-free, embracing, and healing

#2

Nurture structures of loving accountability called Recovery Circles

#3

Empower every Member to be a contributor

#4

Raise up Member leaders

#5

Ensure responsible stewardship

#6

Work to end systemic racism, socioeconomic inequality, and oppression of any individual or identity group by holding spaces that are profoundly loving, inclusive, and honoring of all

Who is a Recovery Café for?

We believe everyone is in recovery from something—anything that blocks our capacity to love and be loved. While we serve many individuals healing from trauma, addiction, and mental health challenges, Recovery Cafés welcome all individuals seeking healing and connection, including those navigating grief, isolation, and other life struggles.

We believe healing happens in community.

Each Recovery Café is sustained by Members, staff, volunteers, partners, neighbors, and donors. Every person that is engaged with a Café is invited into a community of belonging.

We welcome people of all identities, backgrounds, and worldviews with radical hospitality. We believe that real relationships that cross socio-economic, racial, religious, political, and other divides not only transform us, but also ignite change in the broader communities surrounding each Recovery Café.

The Recovery Café Model

Filmed at the first Recovery Café in Seattle (WA) in 2018, this video shares the heart of our Model: healing through authentic community, where every person is deeply known and loved. Today, this same spirit is alive in nearly 100 Cafés across the Network.
